The official synopsis of the film is as follows: “A single mother and young detective discovers that a suburban house is cursed by a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter it with a violent death. Now, she runs to save herself and her son from demonic spirits from the cursed house in her neighborhood.”
The film is directed by Nicolas Pesce (Piercing), but is produced by the legendary Sam Raimi (director of The Spider-Man Trilogy). The film stars Andrea Riseborough (Mandy), Academy Award Nominee Demián Bichir (The Nun), John Cho (Searching), Betty Gilpin (The Hunt), Lin Shaye (the Insidious franchise), and Jacki Weaver (Bird Box).
Based on the Japanese Ju-on films, and as mentioned earlier, this isn’t the first time The Grudge has made adapted for American audiences. It was previously made into a film starring Sarah Michelle Gellar in 2004. According to Raimi though, this film will take place in the same universe as the original remake. If true, it’ll be interesting to see how they pull it off.
