Taika Waititi, director of Thor: Ragnarok and the upcoming 2021 sequel Thor: Love and Thunder talks about Thor’s friend and enemy of Thor’s sister Hela Valkyrie and her sexuality, as he spoke to Variety:
Tessa Tompson’s character in Thor: Ragnarok was announced as an LGBT superhero last year and the fans are waiting to see a romatic story for her in the sequel next year.
While Waititi was talking to Variety, he was asked if he would like to see Valkyrie to be “explicitly queer” in Thor: Love and Thunder,
”I think so”, he said. ”The IP is not mine”. “But with the actors , I feel whatever makes them comfortable, whether they feel like there’s a natural choice, or a natural way for that character to go, then I’m pretty supportive”. “If Tessa wants to do that, I’m in”.
Tessa refered to Valkyire’s sexuality last year in Comic-Con 2019, where she told the fans: ”As new king, she needs to find her queen, so that will be the first order of business. She has some ideas. I’ll keep you posted”
Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on November 5, 2021, and while the plot is still in secret, we know from Comic-Con last year that Natalie Portman will be back as Female Thor and I am very excited to see what will the film offer for us.
