A week later and people are still talking about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, commenting on the little screen-time that Kelly Marie Tran’s character (Rose Tico) had is inevitable. It is shocking that she only had 76 seconds of screen-time and absolutely no importance in the plot of the movie given the importance she had in Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi. She was a main part of the plot and contributed a lot of character development for Finn. She even had a backstory regarding her sister sacrificing herself for the Resistance.
Now, in The Rise of Skywalker she was incredibly wasted and completely pointless. She was there just because she was in the last one, and because she didn’t die. This little detail is one more example on the misdirection the entire trilogy had and how the two directors (J. J. Abrams and Rian Johnson) are always contradicting each other in many decisions along the movies. A lot of inconsistencies and contradictions. Of course, J. J. Abrams did everything he could to try to wrap up everything The Last Jedi set, and retake his original idea with the story and then having to wrap it up.
Fans of The Last Jedi will hate this decision from Abrams, but haters of The Last Jedi will dig it, especially since their main complain is the entire side plot with Finn and Rose.
