It looks like there is still life in the Pirates of the Caribbean series! The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Margot Robbie will star in a new entry in the franchise being written by her Birds of Prey and Bumblebee writer Christina Hobson. This new entry is supposedly a spinoff, not a continuation of the original series of films whose last entry was 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. In addition to this new film, there is also a reboot in the works from original Pirates scribe Ted Elliott and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin. Karen Gillan is reportedly eyed to star in this film.

Even with no plot details being disclosed at this time, this is a great way to breathe some new life into the franchise. Robbie is an A-list talent and her work on Birds of Prey with Hobson almost completely redeemed the subpar take on Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. These two could add some teeth to a franchise that has arguably lost its way in its 17-year run.
