Tom Holland’s blistering Marvel success has made him one of the most sought after actors of the past year or so critically due to his most loved interpretation of our friendly neighbourhood hero, Spider-Man. We all know (unless you’ve been living under an un-digital rock for the past week and a bit) Sony – who owns the film rights for Spider-Man – and Disney – who owns Marvel of course – could not come to an agreement over financing shares for the superhero.
However, as of today Kevin Feige – Marvel Studios president – has confirmed the divorce between Sony and Disney consequently meaning that Tom Holland will no longer be involved with the MCU as Spider-Man. I suppose the only good thing to take out of this is what a terrific job he has done as a young and relatively fresh actor that has only wanting both production companies wanting to take the praise. In case you hadn’t heard, he broke his silence today regarding the matter saying it’s been a “long week” with Feige also adding that it has bought the studio “gratitude and joy. Whole quotations are below.
“I’m feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy. We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”
Fortunately enough however, Tom Holland said he will “continue playing Spider-Man” in what will be a whole new chapter and another new take on the story of the superhero we all love. Though it may be now official that the Sony/Disney partnership has come to a permanent halt, I think this only means we are on to bigger and better things. Here’s to the future.
