Actor Josh Gad has been casted in director Ronald Emmerich’s new space thriller Moonfall. According to Screenrant, Gad will play KC Houseman, an unkept an odd genius who accurately predicts that the moon has fallen out of orbit;
“…thus making the space-obsessed, profoundly unfiltered and eccentric man one of the most important people on Earth.”
The story itself will follow a misfit team who is sent to land the lunar surface, just mere weeks before the the moon is set to collide with earth, after it is removed from earth, by a mysterious force.
The film (which has been bought by Lionsgate, per Variety) will be written by Emmerich, Harald Kloser (co-writer on 10,000 BC and 2012) and Spenser Cohen (Extinction). Emmerich has also been given creative control on this project and has set production on the film to begin this fall, when more details will be revealed on the cast at that time.
Though Moonfall has been in development since 2016, due to the director’s last film Midway, Emmerich’s decades of experience in apocalyptic and mass destruction films makes him the perfect choice for Moonfall to be a blockbuster hit.
