Yesterday, at the Disney Parks, Experiences and Products keynote, chairman Bob Chapek announced new rides coming to Disney Parks worldwide. Here’s the recap.
Firstly, Disney has shared more details about the Marvel lands that will be build at Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim and Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris. The land will be called Avengers Campus and will consist of multiple areas covering multiple Avengers. Both parks will have a Spider-Man ride and an Ant-Man and the Wasp themed restaurant.
In Anaheim, Doctor Strange will have an interactive show area and the current ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout will also be part of the land. As part of a phase 2, a highly immersive ride based on the Avengers will be built as well. The first phase, consisting of everything besides the Avengers ride, will open next year. In Paris, the current Rock ’N Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith will be rethemed into an Iron Man ride. No further details, such as an opening date, have been released.
At Disney’s EPCOT at Walt Disney World, multiple rides based on Disney films have been announced and detailed. First off, the previously announced Guardians of the Galaxy rollercoaster has been given a name: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. It will feature a backwards launch, no further info has been given.
At the France pavilion, the previously announced Ratatouille ride (which is a clone of the one currently at Disneyland Paris) will open next year. In the new World Nature area of the park, a Moana water play area will be build. Lastly, and most excitingly, at the UK pavilion a whole area will be build dedicated to the Disney classic Mary Poppins. You will be able to step into Cherry Tree Lane and meet Mary Poppins and Jack the lamplighter from Mary Poppins Returns. We don’t know what and if there will be a ride as of now.
In both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Anaheim, the very first ride based on Mickey Mouse will be made. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will feature original music and all of the classic Disney characters. It will open in Hollywood Studios in 2020 and in Disneyland in 2022.
In Hong Kong Disneyland, two new Frozen rides will open. One is a dark ride (and a clone of the one at EPCOT); Frozen Ever After. The other one is a family rollercoaster called Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs.
Lastly, Disney shared more details about their Star Wars hotel that is being build at Walt Disney World. It will connect to the soon to be opened Galaxy’s Edge and will make you feel like you are on a luxurious Star Wars cruise vessel. The hotel will be called Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.
