A third installment in the Creed franchise is officially in development at MGM from writer Zach Baylin. Baylin is new in Hollywood but he is attached to the upcoming Will Smith King Richard movie arriving this year. Michael B Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, and Tessa Thompson are expected to return.
The Creed franchise is one of those rare franchises that is pretty much perfect. Both movies have gotten very solid reviews and have certainly pleased fans. They have also done very well at the box office. The last Creed movie made over 200 million worldwide off of just a 50 million budget. Both Creed movies have also gotten stellar reviews. Sylvester Stallone was even nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the first Creed and won the Golden Globe.
The Creed franchise has really helped Tessa Thompson and Michael B Jordan’s career. They both played prominent roles in the MCU gaining them a ton of fans. Jordan has a lot of projects on the horizon, including his own Tom Clancy movie and he’s staring in David O’Russel’s next picture which also stars Christain Bale and Margot Robbie. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about Sylvester Stallone. This franchise is all Stallone has left after his new Rambo movie fell flat.
As of now, no director is attached to this new Creed installment. The first one was directed by Ryan Coogler who went on to direct the Oscar-nominated Black Panther. The second film was directed by Steven Caple Jr. and despite doing a great job, he has not gotten any work since. So maybe Caple will return to direct this third installment.
