Despite his successful career in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America himself Chris Evans, said that he does not want to return as the beloved comic book character (via IGN).
Evans elaborated during his appearance on the U.K.’s The Graham Norton Show (via Digital Spy) stating:
“It was a great run and we went out on such a high note that it would be risky to revisit it in my opinion. It was such a good experience and I think it’s better left that way.”– Actor Chris Evans on not returning as Captain America (via Digital Spy)
This echoes Evans’s previous comments when he was asked if he would return to the popular superhero franchise saying:
“It’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either. I think Cap had such a tricky act to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey. If you’re going to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab. It can’t be just because the audience wants to be excited. What are we revealing? What are we adding to the story? A lot of things would have to come together.”– Chris Evans on his journey in the MCU and the future of Captain America (via Digital Spy)
While it is understandable why Evans would not want his legacy to be tarnished, it is quite possible that he could be featured in a few cameos, in a future timeline. With Disney Plus’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier show only in season one so far, this could very well happen, if it is renewed for a second season. For now, Marvel fans still have plenty of other alternatives, including the aforementioned Disney Plus shows (i.e. WandaVision, Loki) and the next MCU release Black Widow this fall, (if theaters are back open, of course).
