Chiwetel Ejiofor has confirmed that he will be reprising his role as Baron Mordo in the upcoming sequel to Doctor Strange, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The actor recently told ScreenRant:
“We’re hoping to start pretty soon is what I can tell you. So, you know, as soon as possible. We’re all excited to get going and to get cracking with it. I can’t wait.”Chiwetel Ejiofor on returning as Mordo
Last time we saw Mordo, he was portrayed in a villainous light, with him stripping away someone’s magic powers, leaving them to suffer, in order to keep his own physical injuries at bay. This dark nature takes Marvel fans back to the comics in which Mordo was the evil adversary for hero Doctor Strange.
Things will likely go down a similar path in the sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with Mordo appearing as an antagonist to Doctor Strange, who has already suffered so much due to the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
Sam Raimi revealed that he’d be directing the Doctor Strange sequel earlier this year at a conference while promoting his new Quibi Series. Raimi told journalists:
“I loved Doctor Strange as a kid. He was always after Spider-Man and Batman for me. He was probably No. 5 for me for great comic book characters. He was so original.”Sam Raimi on directing the Doctor Strange sequel
It might disappoint some to learn that Rachel McAdams has confirmed that she would not be reprising her role as Christine Adams, Doctor Strange’s love interest from the first film. On a more positive note, Benedict Cumberbatch has of course said that he will return as Steven Strange, while Benedict Wong is also set to come back as Wong, the Sanctum Sanctorum’s guard.
