In a shocking turn of events, Scott Derrickson, director of the first Doctor Strange movie, has exited the second film because of “Creative Differences”. However, Derrickson will remain as an executive producer on the film, as Marvel searches for a new director.

Marvel reached out to Variety regarding the matter and stated: “Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences, We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”

The first Doctor Strange movie was well regarded by both fans and critics alike, in addition to making a good amount of money at the box office. Fans were excited to see Derrickson return, however, unfortunately, that will no longer be the case. It is strange Derrickson decided to step away, seeing how he previously appeared to be very excited about making a sequel, even presenting the film at Comic-Con.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to release on May 7th, 2021. This movie is shaping up to be a pretty big deal for Marvel Studios, as it will also feature Scarlett Witch and is said to contain major reveals. The sequel is set to begin production this May, and thankfully there are not expected to be any delays.

With a little over a year until its release, we hope that this doesn’t effect production too much. Regardless, who do you think should take over directing duties for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
