Blinded By Light Review- Lives and Breathes Music and Inspiration

2 min read

So starting off, I had zero interest in his movie. But I talked myself into just going and checking it out. Boy am I glad I did. This movie was utterly amazing, From the casting, acting, directing, and of course the music. The film was packed full of emotion and inspirational moments from start to finish. The main plot is based around Javed played by Viveik Kalra, who lived in a small town called Luton with his Pakistani family. Now his family is very trenched in a traditional Pakistani way.

Examples of are all throughout the movie, everyone lives for the father and the father’s opinion is the only one that really matters in the household. He wants to have his kids get very successful jobs. But Javed loves writing, its something he really wants to do. All things change when he is given a tape, a tape with music by “The Boss” a.k.a Bruce Springsteen. This music end up speaking straight to his soul and changes his whole perspective on life.

Now some of the things that stood out to me the most in this film were the relationships. Javed’s relationship with his friends, with his father, and his new girlfriend. Particularly the father and son relationship stood out to me. It felt so real, raw, and relatable.Everyone has fights and disagreements with their parents.

One of my favourite in the entire thing was after a fight with his family, he puts on his headphones, cranks his music all the way up and gets lost in the lyrics. While he ends up outside and there is a storm raging on, he is dancing and the lyrics are popping up on the buildings and it’s done in such a beautiful and artistic way that I just fell in love with this part.

There were also a few minor things in the movie that didn’t fit nor did I feel like they needed to be inclouded at all. One was the next-door neighbour- an elderly guy that he shows up in a few spots and I felt like those didn’t impact the story at all and could have been cut out entirely.

In the end, I was purely impressed by this movie and its already on my list for one of my favourite movies of the year. I highly suggest checking this out, it’s so inspirational that it is a must-see for sure.
