Best Movies to Watch During the Thanksgiving Season!

While Thanksgiving is one of the most celebrated Holidays in America, known for food, giving thanks, and of course family, it’s not really known for movies. Unlike Christmas, there aren’t as many films dedicated to the holiday of Thanksgiving. However, that’s not to say there aren’t any good Thanksgiving movies. This is Kernel’s list of movies that are sure to get you in the Thanksgiving spirit.

Free Birds

This animated family comedy follows Reggie the turkey, who finds out the horrible truth about what happens to turkeys during Thanksgiving time. However, Reggie then gets chosen by the president as the annual “pardoned turkey”. But, when Reggie comes across the path of Jake, a radical turkey intent on stoping turkeys from being part of the Thanksgiving tradition, they embark on a time-traveling adventure. This movie may not be a perfect movie, but it’s definitely a fun watch for the family, especially around the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Oath

Everyone knows politics and Thanksgiving is never a good mix. The Oath starring Tiffany Haddish and Ike Barinholtz centers around a couple refusing to sign their loyalty to the United States for tax reasons. With the deadline fast approaching, Chris and Kai have to find a way to make it through Thanksgiving with their family, without bringing up the Oath. However, when their family starts to catch on, chaos follows creating a very memorable Thanksgiving comedy.

Home for the Holidays

Home for the Holidays staring Holly Hunter follows Claudia Larson, who receives a plethora of bad news right before the Thanksgiving holiday. After losing her job, she finds out that her daughter is spending Thanksgiving with her boyfriend. Not wanting to spend the holiday alone, Claudia finally returns home to spend Thanksgiving with her family. This classic comedy is full of laughs, as we see if Cladia can survive the holiday with her crazy family and their antics.

Addams Family Values

If you’re in the mood to spend your Thanksgiving in more of a wacky fashion, the Addams Family has you covered. When a new baby boy joins the Addams Family, Wednesday and Pugsley experience sibling rivalry. Meanwhile, the family’s new nanny falls in love with Uncle Fester, however, she might have evil motivations. With Thanksgiving approaching, the Addams Family must learn the true meaning of family,

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Perhaps one of the most famous pieces of Thanksgiving entertainment, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving has become a tradition for many families during the holidays. This Charlie Brown adventure centers around Charlie attempting to throw together a Thanksgiving dinner for Peppermint Patty, Linus, Woodstock, Snoopy, and the rest of his friends.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Thanksgiving is the busiest time to travel out of the whole year, so what happens when an anti-social businessman is forced to travel with a chatty con artist? Well, let’s just say, it makes for great entertainment. When Neal Page’s flight is forced to make an emergency landing, he must team up with chatterbox Del Griffin to make it home in time for Thanksgiving. Their adventures lead them into awkward situations that are sure to have you laughing. However, this movie is also full of heart and perfectly captures the holiday spirit. Not to mention iconic performances from Steve Martin and John Candy.
