Following the announcement that the 93rd Academy Awards show would be moved to April 25th, 2021, the Hollywood Foreign Press has made a similar move for the Golden Globes. It was announced early Monday morning that the ceremony would be moved to February 28th, 2021. The 78th annual ceremony will be held at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, and will be hosted by the hilarious duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
The HFPA has yet to update voters on eligibility, voting period, and nomination announcement timing but plans to do so in the coming weeks. With the Globes coming almost eight weeks before the Oscars as opposed to the usual four, this could cause the results of the Globes to influence the results of the Oscars. The voting process for the Academy Awards won’t begin until March 5th, about a week after The Golden Globes takes place.
Next year’s award season could be an interesting one, as these unprecedented times could lead to unprecedented results. But one thing is for sure, and that is safety and health are more important than any award.
